A fascinating profile of cinema's influence on the legendary Cubists. Produced by Martin Scorsese and directed by Arne Glimcher, PICASSO AND BRAQUE GO TO THE MOVIES is a cinematic tour through the effects of the technological revolution, specifically the invention of aviation, the creation of cinema and their interdependent influence on artists Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. With narration by Scorsese and interviews with art scholars and artists including Chuck Close, Julian Schnabel and Eric Fischl, the film looks at the collision between film and art at the turn of the 20th Century and helps us to realize cinema's continuing influence on the art of our time. (USA 1985 - Andrei Konchalovsky - 111mins) Oscar-nominated performances by Jon Voight and Eric Roberts highlight this seminal action film. "RUNAWAY TRAIN", by the celebrated Russian director Andrei Konchalovsky (Siberiade, Maria's Lovers, Shy People) is a hypnotic and unforgettable ride. Oscar "Manny" Manheim (Voight) is a ruthless bank robber and hero to the convicts of Stonehaven Maximum Security Prison. After two previous escape attempts the doors to Manny's cell have been welded shut for three years. A court order compels Manny's nemesis, the vindictive Associate Warden Ranken, to release him back into the general prison population. Manny immediately sets his next escape plan into action. Manny recruits another convict, Buck (Roberts), to smuggle him out through the prison's laundry room. After a successful break and a freezing cross-country trek, they hop an idling train in a remote Alaskan rail yard, soon find themselves barreling through a snowy, desolate landscape with no brakes and, worse, nobody driving. Manny & Buck, like the audience, have no idea what's in store for them as the runaway train picks up speed.
